In celebration of our 20th birthday, we’re going back into the archives to reminisce about some of our highlights from the past two decades.  This one’s a cracker!

In 2007 By George Studios beat out production companies in Melbourne and Cairns to secure a 16 month contract, producing and filming behind-the-scenes (in Melbourne, the You Yangs and Port Douglas) on what was reported at the time to be the most expensive mini-series in TV history, THE PACIFIC, produced by Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg.

How did we do that? Well firstly, our network and reputation stretches far and wide. In 2007, a cinematographer that Robb used to work with in Canberra, Richard Moran, now based in the Nine Network’s Los Angeles Bureau, just happened to be having lunch with THE PACIFIC Line Producer, Damien Vena. Damien asked Richard if he knew anyone and the rest is history… actually it wasn’t quite that easy!

Americans are very tough negotiators and we went back and forth for a couple of weeks. The 14 hour time difference in New York made for all sorts of interesting phone calls, but our multi-award-winning portfolio, can-do attitude and central Canberra location won the day!
