Stories of Service Series
The Department of Veterans’ Affairs contracted BY GEORGE STUDIOS to produce a series featuring six remarkable Stories of Service, three from the First World War and three from the Vietnam War.
These 5-7min short documentaries primarily align with the Australian Curriculum Year 10 History strand, however the content will be adaptable to teach Australian history at other year levels and will also be accessible to the broader community.
BY GEORGE STUDIOS used a storytelling approach in the style of a ‘cracking yarn’ to engage students and make the historical content accessible and compelling. We did this through a combination of pieces to camera with iconic Australian presenter Ray Martin, timelapses of illustrations morphing into photos, animations, sound effects, dramatisations, first person narration, and interviews with experts and with the subjects themselves or their family or friends.
Whilst also introducing larger themes and topics, the documentaries emphasise the human qualities at the centre of each story, allowing students to empathise with the subjects and explore other responses to experiences involving adversity, courage, humour, ingenuity and resilience.
The Community Engagement Team at the Department were delighted with the Stories of Service BY GEORGE STUDIOS produced.
